Do you Need to Apply to Your Major?
The University of Georgia proudly offers students in good standing — whether students continuing at the University of Georgia or transfer students — the opportunity to access the majors of their choice depending on the availability of necessary educational resources, including sufficient faculty to provide a quality learning environment. Some majors have entrance requirements and some have entrance requirements and high demand selection criteria.
Entrance Requirements
Some majors have entrance requirements which must be in-progress or completed before you can enroll in the major. These entrance requirements vary by major, but may include completion of the General Education Core, completion of or enrollment in certain foundational courses, or overall GPA. You may enroll in the Intended option for the major (ex: Intended Dance) until you have completed the entrance requirements and then apply for admission to the major (ex: Dance).
High Demand Majors
Majors which have entrance requirements but still have more student demand than capacity may also have high demand selection criteria. The criteria varies by major, but may include statements of purpose, grades in specific courses, or documentation of skills or experiences. You may enroll in the Intended option for the major (ex: Intended Advertising) until you have completed the entrance and high demand requirements and then apply for admission to the major. If accepted, you will be enrolled in the major (ex: Advertising).
