As an enrolled student, you can view how your transfer credits have been evaluated by the Office of Admissions either through Athena or Degree Works. Courses can be listed in four ways.
- As a direct equivalent to a UGA course. This means the course you took at your previous institution matches the content and rigor of a corresponding UGA course. It could have the same course code or a different course code.
- As a general education core elective, or “GXX” course. This means we do not offer an exact match for the course at UGA, but it can satisfy a UGA Core requirement where most appropriate. This is still considered transferrable credit.
- As a transfer elective, or “TXX” course. This means we do not offer an exact match for the course at UGA but it can be used towards your elective requirement and total degree hours. This is still considered transferrable credit.
- As not transferrable. Some types of courses that may not transfer include experience or institutional placement, non-academic courses (internships, workshops, practicums, etc.), music performance beyond 4 hours, PE beyond 1 hour (no grade used) and bachelor’s degree level areas of study not taught by UGA (nursing, aviation, etc.).
Under the guidance of a UGA academic advisor, enrolled students have the opportunity to request a reevaluation of transfer credit to request a direct equivalent to a UGA course. If you are an admitted student, you cannot submit this until you have met with or communicated with your academic advisor. This process is at the discretion of the academic advising team in your school or college. Your advisor can provide guidance on which courses should be submitted, to which department, and for which equivalence. You must have a digital copy of the syllabus for the transfer course to submit for evaluation.
